Wheel Backspacing Question

Looking to add a 4-link, Moser 12-bolt, and minitub over the winter. Right now I have 17x8" & 17x9.5" Billet Specialties Street Stars on the car.

Im wanting to swap out the rears for 17x11" Street Stars while all this work is being done. My question is, what backspacing will I need if I get the STOCK width 12-bolt?

Or should I go with a shorter width rear end and a deeper lip on the rims? Hmmm

Oops! I was thinking about my 12-bolt purchase and put this in the wrong section.

Would an admin please move it for me! Thanks!

Re: Wheel Backspacing Question

Matt you are throwing a lot into the mix but removing everything but stock width 12 bolt and assuming you are not changing the fender shape you can figure this out. Start with the 9.5" wheel with 5.5" backspacing, you don't want your 11" wheel to stick out any further than the 9.5" so the extra 1.5" has to go toward the inside of the wheel.

That would mean an 11" wheel with 7" of backspacing. Now would be the time though it your 9.5" wheel is too close to the fender lip to adjust for that and you could get an 11" wheel with 7.25" backspacing and gain 1/4" clearence at the fender lip.

Caution though as none of this takes into concideration the size of your mini-tube or clearence for your suspension components.

Re: Wheel Backspacing Question

Okay yeah this was more for a confirmation... i had heard a couple people saying 11" wide used 7.25 BS so Im thinking that would be the safe bet. Just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this recently. I would not be changing the fender shape, etc.

Re: Wheel Backspacing Question

Just as another data point I am running 6.375" BS with stock length differential, non invasive mini tub, but with a 10" rim though. For the life of me I just could not justify the hundreds of dollars difference between a 10" and 11" rim.
