Tire size ok?

I will be running 17X8 and 17X9 wheels on my 69 Camaro. I can get a smoking deal on a set of new tires that are 205/40/17 and was wondering if this tire would work or be to narrow for the wheels. Thank you all much. Happy new Year.

Re: Tire size ok?

Don't buy different size wheels if you are planning on the same size tires front and back.

205x40x17 is too small, it's only 23.5" tall, fits on a 7"-8" wheel and has a section width of 8.3" which is narrower than a 17x9" wheel.

Re: Tire size ok?

Thats what I was afraid of. What if I went with 17X8 all around. Im afraid that it wont look right on my lowered pro touring look.

Spend some time looking at this sticky thread on '69 wheel and tire combos...

Re: Tire size ok?

I live on that sticky...haha. That was the reason I asked about 205 tires. Nobody else was running a tire that narrow. I think im going skip these tires. I need brakes next anyways. Thank you.

Re: Tire size ok?

I second what Dennis said. Either buy 4 matching wheels with 4 matching tires so you can rotate them, or buy a staggered set of wheels with a staggered set of tires.

Running the same size tires on all 4 corner, but on different sized wheels doesn't serve much purpose, and 205's on a 17" rim of any width would look too narrow in my opinion.

For what it's worth, a 235-245 fits nicely on an 8" wide wheel, and a 265-275 fits nicely on a 9" wheel.
