Wheel Vintiques Trim Rings

I took my 15x8 rear trim ring off the rear and put it on my 15x7 front wheel and was amazed how much better it looked than the 15x7 ring. Although I prefer the step lip ring over the rounded edge design, they don't make the step lip rings near deep enough even for a 7" wheel. Look at how much better the 8" ring looks on a 7" wheel. Here it is with the 7" ring.

And here it is with the 8" ring , notice how it closed up the gap between the ring and the wheel!! I ordered 2 more 8" rings , and will be using them on all four wheels. The large gaps looked like crap IMO.

Re: Wheel Vintiques Trim Rings

hmm...I'm guessing your 7" ring is WV also ? The GM 7" stepped ring measures 2 3/4" and there's a 3/8" gap from the wheel center. Yeah, my main complaint is the gap is big enough to be noticable, yet small enough to make it kinda difficult to clean. I doubt a GM 8" ring would fit on a 7" wheel....most likely would hit the wheel center before locking into place.

Yours does look good. Does the 8" ring actually make contact with the wheel center or is there a slight gap ?

...guess you should mention what wheel you're using....GM, WV, backspace ?

Re: Wheel Vintiques Trim Rings

Yea , the wheels and all the rings that I have are Wheel Vintiques. The 8" ring on my front 7" wheel fits on and leaves about a 1/8" gap . What kills me is that I've had them for about 5 years, and just now thought to try that, duh. I looked for wider step lip rings for years and have given up that battle. I just wish I would have went with 7" wheels all the way around so I could have that same gap in the rear too. My 8" wheels in the rear have about a 3/4" gap with that same 8" ring. But I think I'll be happier with it now, at least the fronts have a nice tight gap.

Re: Wheel Vintiques Trim Rings

I'm not real familar with the Corvette rings, but I'm running 8"rear wheels also and like you, not particulary happy with the trim ring gap.

Is the 3" Vette ring as wide as they come ? Anyone else answer that ?

What's the backspace on your 8" rear wheels ?

Re: Wheel Vintiques Trim Rings

My 8" rear wheels are 4 1/2 backspace. Fronts are 4 1/4 backspace.
As far as I know the 3" vette. rings are the deepest that I have found. But I did find one on the Summit website made by U.S. Wheel that was over 4", but I think that is for truck wheels, and I"m not sure that it would fit on a Wheel Vintiques 30 series wheel. I was tempted to try a pair for my rears, but if they didin't fit I'd be stuck with shipping to return them.
It sure is too bad nobody could step up and produce a nice deep 3" or more step lip Camaro ring.

Re: Wheel Vintiques Trim Rings

Thanks, that's what I figured....4.5" backspace (8" wheel )is pretty much the standard on Camaro. I believe the common Vette 8" wheels have 4" backspace, meaning they're deeper dished on the front side. So the same 3" trim ring would have even a greater gap than the 3/4" you mention on yours....

Seems like there must be a wider ring available ?.?.?
