29" Tire on a '68?

Anybody here put a 29" tire on a '67 or '68 without stretching the quarters? If so, please post details. I've heard a couple people say it's possible but a 28" is tight so I'm skeptical. Thanks.

Re: 29" Tire on a '68?

Jim,

It should work fine but will depend on backspacing.

I know guy that runs a 255/70R15 BFG tire on an 8 inch Cragar rim on a 68 Camaro. That tire is 29 inches tall according to a tire size calculator. Sorry I don't know the backspacing.

68 Camaro SS 396 - 468 BBC now, M21, 12 bolt 3.73 coded housing but w/ 3.31 gears.
Looking for 68 Camaro with body number NOR 181016

Re: 29" Tire on a '68?

I plan to do a 29x10.5 on a 15x10 double bead lock with 4.5" backspacing mini tubbed. I'm sure on everything but diameter. Just don't want to stretch the quarters.
