Drag Radial Sizes and capabilities.

Last year I replaced my treaded street tires with Hoosier Drag Radial D.O.T. slicks, as it turned out I got unbelievable traction but I overkilled on the size of the tire a little bit (275/60/r15) and lost a significant amount of torque in the process. I want to run a smaller slick, my 60' times were high 1.9s ET's around 13.9. Going to shoot for 12.5s this year anybody have any input on the subject? Should have about 375hp to the pavement and 450ft/lbs torque. Also I have a friend who put 29x12.5 sportsmans on a 70's chev truck with around 600rwhp. The sportsmans arent hooking up at all and was hoping to pawn off my miss matched tires to him, Will a 28x10" Radial slick be able to hold that kind of power?

With 4.10 gears, a 3,500 converter and it doesn't reach 100? With the current tune I don't see it running 12.5 on the motor. Are you wanting to run that ET on the nitrous? Have you had it on a dyno?

Re: Drag Radials Sizes and capabilities.

No I am hoping the nitrous shot is going to get me there...... maybe even quicker, as I was setting up the micro switch I realized that I never had WOT (dumb I know) butterflies were only opening about 85%.

Re: Drag Radials Sizes and capabilities.

If your suspension is setup right you should be able to dead hook and run mid 12's. Years ago my car ran mid 12's at 109 on the motor and dead hooked with BFG drag radials. My suspension mods consisted of removing the swaybars, Comp 3 way shocks up front and some home made clamps on the front half of the leaf springs.

What have you done to your suspension? Do you have swaybars?

Re: Drag Radials Sizes and capabilities.

Best Pull on dyno was 233hp @ 5200 and 298 ft/lb @ 3800 (with 85% throttle and way too big of tires on.) 23% humidity, 71.88deg/F, 2803 feet above sea.

What was the air fuel ratio?

Re: Drag Radials Sizes and capabilities.

I haven't modified anything with the suspension, I put in a new 5 leaf pack last spring. I was getting a "dead hook" with the tires that I was running but I noticed a considerable loss in torque "from the drivers seat" immediately after I put them on. The treaded tires I had on would burn half way through second gear with out loading up the TC so I went taller and wider with a slick (over kill).

Re: Drag Radials Sizes and capabilities.

I am going to start with smaller rubber, take it out and consider any suspention mods after.

Re: Drag Radials Sizes and capabilities.

Air fuel was a little Rich at low RPM and a little lean at the top end. When we unhooked the mufflers it leaned considerably.

Good plan!

On a mid 12 second car a 28X10" drag radial will work. If it doesn't, you need to work on the suspension.
