67 Camaro tire size

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me the biggest tire size is that I can
put on a 15x8 stock rally rim on the rear without any clearance problems.
The car has a 12 bolt rear axle.
Thanks for any info

Ron

Re: 67 Camaro tire size

Welcome Ron, "stock 15x8 Rally", I'm guessing a Corvette wheel, as no First Gen Camaro's came with an 8" rim. They had a stamped AZ code by by the valve stem hole and a 4" backspace. The backspace meaurement is critical in determining the biggest tire possible w/o clearance issues.

That said, I have aftermarket 15x8 rally wheels in the rear, 4.5" backspace and 255/60 T/A's. Haven't had it on the road yet, but sure looks like they might rub if I hit a bump hard or have a load of bricks in the trunk !

Let's see what other folks have to say....

Randy, if the suspension is compressed....(say you've got a load of gravel in the trunk lol) will the 275 go inside the wheelwell without rubbing on wheel opening ?

Re: 67 Camaro tire size

Garth, never had gravel in my trunk, lol I have had this setup for about 6 years and have never rubbed the tire on the wheel opening. I even had one side jacked up doing some suspension work on the front and the quarter panel came down really far and did not touch the tire. I have 8.5 10 bolt out of a 72 nova, stock width, same as early camaro. I also have caltrac split mono springs, caltracs, caltracs rear shocks. My profile has a good pic of my car.

Re: 67 Camaro tire size

I've got 15x8 wheels with 28.5 x 11.5 Hoosier Quick Time Pros on my '68, used a pair of wheel spacers to prevent rubbing, works pretty well. Car has seen only dragstrip service but those return roads are usually worse than any street in America,lol....no rubbing.
