rear centerline drags 15x8.5, which BS?

1969 Camaro. No rolled fender lips, no mini tubs, no mods at all.

You would think a search would have cleared this up, but it didn't.

Centerline drags, 15x8.5 are only offered in two backspaces: 4.875 or 3.313 (which is actually slightly negative offset). There may be some other vintage ones available in other offsets.

Plan on the widest tire I can fit on the rear, so it is important to get the wheel close to "centered" in the wheel well.
Seems like the 3.313 would likely cause rubbing on the outer lip. Unless I hear otherwise, i plan on getting the 4.875 BS. Even if it is slightly "off" center to the inside, I can use a 1/4 inch spacer to get it out farther.

Anyone have experience with these wheels on the rear of a 69?
Thanks for any input.

I am guessing that with all the guys running 17x9.5 with 5.5 inch backspacing, I should be fine with 8.5 and 4.875 backspacing.
No one is running old centerline wheels?

Re: rear centerline drags 15x8.5, which BS?

I can tell you the 3.3" 15x8.5 will put the wheel and tire outside the fender lip. That means jacking the rear of the car way up.

See if this chart helps... Experience tells us a 15x7" wheel with a 4.25" bs and a 17x9.5" wheel with a 5.5" bs fit the widest possible tire by placing it as close to center in the well as possible. Both have a positive 6 offset. With a 15x8.5" wheel a 5" bs would be optimal. You might be able to machine .135" (27/200") off the pad to give you the full 5" backspacing.

For a better understanding, notice how rim width isn't measured to outside of the lip but backspacing and offset are...

Re: rear centerline drags 15x8.5, which BS?

Thanks Dennis. That helps.

I am pretty sure the 4.875 (4 and 7/8) will get me there. You have confirmed what I thought about the 3.13. I don't want to jack the car up to make them fit.

Made an offer on a pair of rears. Just got a smokin deal on a pair of fronts purchsed in 1996 but never mounted.
