Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

I'm trying to figure out my tire and rim selection for my 69, and I'm thinking I want to got with the same size tires front and back. This will be a daily driver, so it'd be nice to be able to rotate the tire, and carry a spare that fits any location.

I'm running adjustable coil overs up front, and 1.5" drop leafs, and I'm thinking of 17x8 rims with 40 or 45-series tires. Any suggestions on a tire that will still fill all the wheel wells nicely without rubbing?

Re: Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

If your wheels have the right backspacing you might be able to run 245/45/17's, The next size down is 235/45/17...

This is a great idea. I thought about it after my wheel/tire purchase. The only problem I see is filling the rear. Then again, RideTech has the Tru Turn system where you can run wider wheels up front without issues. $$$

Already have my suspension done, so I'll be working with what I have.

Re: Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

What Dennis said. Will have to do 4.75" backspace all around with an 8" rim.

Re: Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

My philosophies are:

1) i don't rotate my tires yet i can get 100,000 miles out of them.

2) if the spare is not larger than the largest size you have on the car presently, then it should fit any position on the car.

Re: Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

How many miles do you think you'll drive per year?

Tires are not that expensive relatively speaking. With the spare you'll be buying 5 tires assuming you are planing a 5 tire v 4 tire rotation cycle.

A larger tire for a spare is more difficult to fit and will leave less room for beer and chips in the trunk

My buddy just picked up a space saver spare for his 69 I believe from a GTO never used for $50 shipped. The bolt pattern is the same and it will work with most disc brakes.

Re: Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

Running same size all around is best if you want to get full mileage but if its not out ever day or weekend, you end up with dry rot. I usually have to trade out tires because of this. Getting 100K out of set may be possibe but you would need to drive 1000 miles a day for 90 days or 500 mpd for more than half year.
You got that much spare time?

I just pulled off my 235 x 60 x 15 and took to discount to rebalance and pull a nail out to patch , HA!, they told me they don't work on tires 10 years old, yet I had much good rubber on them. So, I went back to new 245 x 60x15.

I only get 100k on a set of Mich 10 ply tires on my truck.

So are you running 245/60/15's all the way around?

Yes, Put the rallys back on after making several tours with my Team3 245 x 16 x 50 wheels. Had 235 on but 245 fills the well up better.
I had a rub on the inner wheel opening apron bolt during a bump turn, but cure is to replace those two bolts on each side with a button allen head type bolt from Lowes.

Re: Anyone Running Same Size Front and Back?

Hey Bob, forgot to mention that a lot of your 17" Z rated tires are directional so you wouldn't be able to do a "real" rotation anyway, just front to rear. Have to pay attention to that when you get a set if you want to do a standard rotation with them. Mine are staggered AND directional so they can't do anything.
