67 Camaro Wheels

I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on some new wheels/tires for my 67 Camaro. Stock 10 bolt rear with drum, stock disc breaks up front. I did have the rear leafs de-arched 2 1/2". I'm going with the Boss 338's. I've searched the forum and there are so many different opinions on wheels size. Can some explain the benefit of an 18" over a 17"? Our roads are brutal here so I'm a little concerned with 18". As of right now I'm ordering

F- 17x8. 4.5" BS 225/40 Nitto NT555
R- 17x9.5. 5.5" BS 255/35 Nitto NT555

Can some please tell me this is correct?

I would consider 18" if there's a benefit.

thank you,

Re: 67 Camaro Wheels

Those sidewalls seem a little short to me. Typically you would run a 45 series on a 17 and a 40 on an 18. If you get into a wider tire like a 275, you could go with 275/40/17 or 275/35/18.

I have 18's on mine, 245/40/18 and 275/40/18, and you know it when you hit a bad stretch of road. 17's will allow you more sidewall, and therefore some cushioning.

You can still bend a rim with either size if you slam into a pothole. They will both handle much better than a 15. Some say no real performance benefit going to an 18. I would pick based on which look you like the best.

BS on rears looks good, fronts would be better with 4.75" if that's an option.

Re: 67 Camaro Wheels

Glad to see this posted. I am also looking at tires for my 67. Will be much better than the 14" wheels on there now. How did you choose the tire brand/type? Almost too many choices..ha. Looking forward to see what ya do and the pics!
