I currently am driving a non-power steering 68 Camaro. For a while I was driving on some pretty wornout 205/65/R15 front tires and was just killing myself trying to turn the steering wheel when parking or at very low speeds. Well I just replaced those tires with some cheapo off brand tires (same size) and its like I have a different car. I don't have any of the problems I used to have. Now to my question. I was considering upgrading to power steering. Am I just experiencing the thrill of new rubber that will change as the tires wear a little and make me want to get that PS again? Or should I consider this a blessing that will keep me from having to set up that power steering in the future.

some skinnies on the front will do the same thing.(be easier)
i think your problem was the worn tires,more contact patch.

Have manual steering on my 68 and it turns easily. I don't really see a need for power steering on a Camaro. A cement truck yes... Camaro no...

Make sure all the front end parts (ball joints, idler arm etc.) are in good shape and greased.

If you even turn some higher MPH 1/4 mile passes, you will be glad you DON'T have PS.

Also, if you old tires have worn more on the inside, then the outside, it makes for a hard time turning.
