I need to replace the old Goodyear Eagle ST's that are on the car now. I'm currently running P255/70R15's(rear) and P225/70R15's(front) on what I understand as stock 'Vette 15inch rally's. The front passenger tires rubs a bit on hard cornering on the fender well. You guys think a P235/60R15 would help out my rubbing problems on the front? As it has a smaller diameter and only minimal tread width gains. What do you guys think? I'd like to stick with Goodyear's...unless there's a good reason not to.

The 255's fit fine out back. Of course I wouldn't mind a wider tire with the same diameter...but I can't find any Goodyears.

Any suggestions would be great.

If your wheels are 15X8's with a 4" BS, I dont think they will work up front. I had problems with the rear outer tire hitting the lower rear fender well on turn in. I went to 15X7 with 4.5" BS on my front. They fit perfect.

I have 15x8 with 4" bs on my 69, running 235/60/15 and do not get any rub. I have rebuilt the front end though. I am going to get 15x8's with 4.5bs and that will help also.

Alright. Mike I'm having that exact problem just like you described it with my current combination.

How much backspacing does a stock 'Vette 15inch rim have? How much does it cost to have your rims reworked with more backspacing?

Dan, All the 15X8 Corvette rallys I have seen are 4" backspace. Cant't tell you how much for the work, but it might be cheaper to buy new wheels. I have them on the rear, but went to 15X7's up front. They have a 4.5" BS.

BTW, you might be able to fit 225/60/15's or 215/60/15's on your Vette wheels if youu really want to keep them. If you have an America's Tire or Discount Tire shop around your house, they will usually test fit without a problem.

Mike,

How does your ralleys look with the smaller beauty ring on front, compared to the back?

Its much cheaper to buy new rims from summit.

Jaybird,
When I got the 15X7's up front, I also bought a set of 4 trim rings for the 15X7 wheels.(that's how the repros were sold) The fronts didn't match the rears. Just for kicks I put the new trims rings on the Corvette rally's to see how they would look. I kept them on. The outer portion looks the same. The only difference is about 1/2" less ring inside the wheel. You really can't tell the difference, and it is nice having matching rings.
