Question

I am in the process of finishing my z/28 to factory specs. Can anyone tell me what kind of tires chevrolet put on these cars in the factory? I have seen goodyear poly-glas tires and also firestone wide ovals but don't know which ones are correct. Thanks.

Both, sort of - the Firestone's were 'Sports Car 200' (not "Wide-0val") and Goodyear's were 'Wide Tread GT' (not "Poly-Glass") - size was E70X15.

Anyone have an idea on how they changed between the two tires? Was it early vs. late production, week to week, or day by day. I have never seen this topic covered anywhere, just that two different tires were used. I have kept a short list of cars that have the original spare in the truck and they have all had the Firestone tire. Chevy's promo shots I think all show the Goodyears in place. I bet John Z knows....

Question

My '67 had Firestone 500 Red-line D/70-14 wide ovals named as such in an oval on the sidewall!

Didn't the '68 and '69 cars come with the F/70-14's like mine if not disc-braked and the F/70-15's like mine if disc-braked??

Question

Sorry, back again, I just remembered that my car is a "dog-dished" h/c'ed, painted steel wheeled SS car and that I think the el-cheapo came with something like a what is called a D/78 tire but more like an old 7.50/14????

In other words stock for my wheel/car is a D/70 R/L tire..
