Well heres the thing guys, Ive spent enough money on my 68 to where I have decided to go more exotic with things,

Aside from the hotchkis leafs and sway bar the rear end is completely stock from a 6 cyl.....

So as I have searched around different ideas have popped up mini tubbing imperticular to fit some good sized wheels and tires.

With the wheels I would start with a 15" (torque thrust d style) then to an 18"

One thing I want is to get some enormous rear tires in there, not pro street type but something in the neiborhood of a 335 (Its the magic number because it just so happens to be the width of the tires of a viper)

Im shure this is total overkill but thats what I am going for and seeing as ive gone this far with the car and ive only owned it since the summer I may as well have it ready for anything that I might throw at it in the future.

Whatever suggestions you guys have for how about doing something like this, if it even is possible, and what parts to use.

What aside from the wheelwells would need changing or modification, and what kind of trouble would I be getting myself into tackling this.

P.S. me and a friend went to san francisco tody and passed by a showroom that among others had a 68 firebird 400 and a 69 rs z28. The place was locked!!!

There are a lot of things to be considered. I've mini-tubbed my 69 (for 335/30/18's) and several guys on my website have too.

Are you going to run leaf springs? If so, you'll need a custom fuel tank (or run a cell), you have to relocate your shocks inboard and fabricate new mounts, the tubs themselves have to be widened. The BEST route is to buy the complete kit from Detroit Speed & Engineering. You can run the stock width rear end, but I'd recommend narrowing it up some, but either way, you're going to be playing the backspacing game.

Yes, the DSE kit is by far the easiest way to get the 335's on your car. I run it also.
