What are Boyd wheels?

I am mired in the murkiness of figuring out what wheel/tire combo to put on my car. I don't want much, only old school, chrome, stagger, width, and offset that happens to match up to an available tire. Sooner or later my search had to run across the remnants of the Coddington world. Are there two companies making the same wheels? If so are either of them any good? One of the websites offers only polished what Jegs and Summit have in chrome. On line they seem to be the easiest at getting whatever offset you want.

I know somewhere on here in the past I have seen recommendations on front tire size v offset and am open to any recommendations on size and offset for a 17x7 or 17x8 front wheel on factory disc spindles.

Thanks

Re: What are Boyd wheels?

Wheels cut from scratch from alloy stock to customers specs and designs. You are talking like one of the kind designs but they did put wheels out on the market when Boyd was alive, I am sure they continued on .

Re: What are Boyd wheels?

I am considering the same thing. I have a couple of favorite Boyd wheels that I like. I would imagine the family sold the rights to the Boyd name and the wheels are made by another company. I am looking at 17 x 8 with a 4.25 or so backspace on a 8 or 9 inch wheel. I too like old school for my old school 69 and the old 68 year guy!

Re: What are Boyd wheels?

Boyd sold out to American Republic Wheels in 2012 when they experienced financial problems with the wheel business.

My understanding and the Coddington/Boyd wheels I've seen are now made in China

It probably didn't take too many SEMA shows to find a china buyer.

Re: What are Boyd wheels?

It appears that Boyds son and American Republic still make the same wheels. I think AR is made in China and distributed by AR. I don't how viable Hot Rods by Boyd is but he claims US manufacturing.
