Tire Size - 69 Camaro

Wanting to put a 15x10, 5.5 backspacing wheel on rear of my 69. Was told a 275/60/15 tire will work without rubbing. Is this true and could I possible go up to a 295 tire. Have a 12bolt bolt and wheel wells are standard, nothing is cut, Current set-up is 15x8 wheel with 28x11.5x15 ET Street

Re: Tire Size - 69 Camaro

Hi Bob
I have the L60-15 ( Same as the 275/60R15 shown on Tire Rack Website ) on 15 x 10" Cragar SS w/ 4.25' B.S.

I too have the 12 Bolt and I have about 1/2" free clearance to the Inside Wall of my Tires and Inner Wheel Well surface.

My Tires do Rub the Outer Fender Lips ( They did back in the day ) I have HiJackers too.

You will also have to see if the 15" Wheels with 5.5" B.S. will interfere with your Shock Mounts too ?

I can take a Pic up inside my Inner Wheel Well too if you want.

Re: Tire Size - 69 Camaro

Wow, L60-15's, I haven't heard of L60's and HiJackers in years, old school, takes me back. I wish I had a good answer to your question, but unfortunately I can only offer some words of caution. I realize it's a bit apples and oranges, but I'm currently running 17x9" with a 5.50" backspacing (with a 275-40 tire on the rear with a 12 bolt and drums) and I had to use a spacer as they rubbed on the inside. Be careful with the backspace, you might want to use 5.25". I know you're planning on a 15" wheel, so like I said, my input doesn't actually match your intended wheel diameter so this may be of limited help. I did run 255-60-15's on 8" ralley wheels in the past with no problem. I seem to recall a post here somewhere indicating that a 275 is pushing your luck, but you'd have to seach the wheel/tire forum for that info. Good luck.

Re: Tire Size - 69 Camaro

I think you will want 5.75" backspacing and a 275 tire is the max in my experience. Even then you may have to trim the fender lip at the 10 and 2 o'clock sections. Ride height will play a role too.

If you are going for an old school ride height, ignore everything I wrote...

Old school look and an old school bumpy ride! What are you going to do with the front tire/wheel and height?

Re: Tire Size - 69 Camaro

I have 18x9 Torq Thrust wheels on a 5" back space on my 69. 275/40/18's and they fit without rubbing. I did have to trim some excess qtr panel material from the outer lip. Just basically trimmed it back to the outer wheel house and it's fine now.

Re: Tire Size - 69 Camaro

275 is about the max depending on ride height.

Recommended wheel for a 275 is 8-9". I would not put a 275 on a 10" wheel.
