original 1967 14" camaro steel wheel

How can I identify an original 1967 14" Camaro steel wheel? I need to know about an original style wheel, not a rally wheel. I am looking for a full set for my 1967 Camaro, built in August, 1966.

Re: original 1967 14" camaro steel wheel

Kelsey Hayes stamped the manufacturing codes for most of their wheels over the years on on the inside side of the wheel as well as at the filler hole (most but not all wheels).

Steel wheels are easy to find but be careful about the trueness of the wheel. There are many aftermarket wheels that look like steel that are lighter and truer if originality is not a judging issue.

This is a link to a thread I started several years ago about 67 steel wheels. There is a lot of go info.

Re: original 1967 14" camaro steel wheel

My computer has been giving me trouble for some time now. I did read the post and found the information. Now I am looking for a set of 14" steel wheels with a July, 1966 date. My car was built in the last week of August, 1966. I am trying to make it again as original as I can. The car has the original engine, transmission, rear end. I owned the car in the late '80,s. I had to sell it because we were putting an addition on the house. I sold it to a friend with the condition that, if he ever sold it, I had the right of first refusal. The problem is that they put disc brakes on the car and now that I own it again I am trying to make it original again. Thanks, coupe

Re: original 1967 14" camaro steel wheel

If you are using steel rims, then I suppose you are also using hub caps. Hub caps can effectively mask most rim choices, they did on my 67 when I initially upgraded it's front brakes to GM OEM sliding caliper (as found on the 69 Camaro as well as Nova, Apollo, etc. of that era up to 72-ish).

You can use almost any 14 x 7 GM rim AND they can be mixed and matched because you are covering them with the hubcap. Get straight ones.

If the prior owner upgraded to non-OEM aftermarket, then you are on your own for the solution.
