arrrgh!!!

Bought a pair of Billet Specialties Mags for the back of the car. I want to mock it up so I can get the rear right. Anyway, not only do the wheels need one of the new whiz bang touch free no metal contact ever tire changers they need one that load the tire from the back. Its easier to deal with root canal than finding this changer. Gonna leave work early today to see if I can modify the changer I have available to load the wheel upside down. its gonna need a trick hub mount from the way they describe it. arrrgh.

Re: arrrgh!!!

That's what I thought. Big mistake. wheels are 18 x 10 w 4" backspace. Wheels have to be hub mounted for tire installation per Billet Specialties. Design of the wheel makes it that the tire can only be mounted from the back side. Hub fixturing isn't new. reverse hub fixturing isn't either its just real uncommon. All these machines are used for is the wheels you don't want to mar. Its not Joe Bob.

Re: arrrgh!!!

I saw the machine and the issue. Machines are neat. They have 2 different types of no-mar machines. They wont use the one type because of the warning on the wheels. The other one, with all the adapters that come with it, cannot clamp and prevent the wheel from spinning. The geometry of this wheel upside down didnt figure in the machines playbook. I guess deep wheels, like me, are just an anachronism today. Every contact component on the machine is an advanced polymer. Put the tire on the shelf, load the wheel, stand back and watch. Gotta see if i can figure out and start to make an adapter tonight if i can find material.

Re: arrrgh!!!

I use custom wheels all the time. 18x12 4" or more BS. 3 piece wheels that cost like $6000 a set.

Discount tire mounts my tires no problem with their tire changers.

Re: arrrgh!!!

I think the changer they wont use would do fine but the warning label on the wheels has them gun shy.

Re: arrrgh!!!

made an adapter last night. They called an hour ago telling me to come and get them. Glad it was easy. Next I get to assemble a rear. More fun John.
