Rims that fit 69 camaros help

Basically I got my 1969 Camaro awhile back and dude spaced the Rears out a bit with a 15" x 10'' x 3.25" back spacing rim, they hook great with the 255 - 60 x 15 rubbers on them, only thing is they rub just a little bit on the shoulder, kinda hurting the mickeys, but I dont have the cash to get all 4 new rims. found a replacement american racing replica of the center line style that might work if I cut out the outside inner fender well lip and bend it in and grind it smooth, the new rim is 15 x 10 x 4" back spacing. only .75 back space difference but do you guys think it may work? If not I was thinking of getting the 8" wide rims but not sure if it'll take off enough, the 10" wide ones just square the wheel up to it so nicely, and advice would be great guys!

Itll be a $250 guess but I think itll work. any body else been in this scenario?

Re: Rims that fit 69 camaros help

You already have the equation - you just need to do the math. If you have a 15x10 with 3.25 BS and it is rubbing, just figure out how far inboard you can go without causing an issue and add that to the BS you already have assuming you will be using the same size tire. Be sure to allow for body roll and the suspension to work.
Now that I think about is, a 255 might look better on a 9" wide wheel. I had 15 x 10's mounted up with 295's back in the day and they did not rub with multi-leafs and coilovers but I think I had a 4.5 BS

10” wheel is too wide for a 255/60R15

Ideal width is 8”

Re: Rims that fit 69 camaros help

Are you sure it is a 10” wheel? Did you measure it to be 10 inches? If you did that is likely a 9” wheel.

Re: Rims that fit 69 camaros help

Thanks for the input everyone! Curious why you would want to run an 8" rim instead though, the 10" squares up the tire nicely, Only reason I want to see what you all think of it is because of the current budget. Looks like I may end up running the 8" rims with 4'' back space since that all that American offers.

If I go to a 8" wide rim instead it'll squeeze in the tire a half inch or so wouldnt it?

Got lots of body damage in the rear so not too worried about folding in the inner lip on the fender haha

Tire manufactures recommend ideal rim widths to maximize the designed performance on the tire.

A wheel width the same or close to the tread width is not typically ideal. Has to do with side wall flex when cornering and other factors

Re: Rims that fit 69 camaros help

I don’t believe you are running a 10” wheel with 3.25” backspacing. It would stick out well past the quarter panel if I did the math right. Normal backspacing for a 10” wheel on a 69 is 5.75”-5.875”....

Gotcha man, Just looked up Mickeys stuff and an 8 should do the trick on size, 4" back space should help with Knocking back the rim size

Yes, mounted on my '69, 4.5" back space. Search this site for feedback from others on what fits and what wheels they've used.

I get the car budget issue, but I'd wait and watch for a set of used wheels with the correct back space and width to fit your wheel well before I'd cut up my rear quarters. You can always change wheels/tires, but once cut, you can't go back and you may not like the result. Look at Summit or Jegs for a pair of Wheel Vintiques ralley wheels with the width and BS you need, they are not too expensive and better than cutting up the car unnecessarily. Craigslist, racingjunk.com, swap meets.....

Then there's always air shocks.
