15x7 YH Wheels, Rings & Caps

Hi all, though the more I learn from various inputs the more this may be a futile ask. I have a 68 Camaro SS 396/325, matching numbers and completely restored, such a beauty. However it has repro 15x7 rally wheels and though I know that the 58 SS didn't come w/YH wheels I would like to find a set in order to keep the car closer to OEM.

From what I can tell these wheels are hard to come by but I thought I would reach out anyway to see if anyone has YH wheels (4), rings and caps for sale?

Thank you!!

Yes, probably much MORE than $1000 for 4 good YH wheels. If you just want to rid your car of the 'repro' wheels and stay with 15x7 Chevy production wheels, buy 4 of the Monte Carlo (FW) series wheels for MUCH less $. They are very close to the same as the YH wheels with only a small difference in offset and are a very available wheels as they came on Monte Carlos from (1970/71 thru '77); note that 1970 MC also used the YH wheels which suggests how close they are to the FW wheels.

Beautiful 68! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but IMO, I wouldn't swap out those wheels. They look perfect on your car.

When I got my '69 it had 2 YH and 2 FW wheels on it. My friends Z/28 also had 2 YH and 2 FW wheels. We did a swap so my friends Z/28 ended up with all 4 YH wheels and I got the FW's and my friend paid for the mounting and balancing.

We couldn't find any physical differences in any of the wheels, everything was identical. Do you have any insight at what we missed?

Re: 15x7 YH Wheels, Rings & Caps

I've been running a 1969 Z/28 with 3 FW wheels and 1 YH wheel for a few decades now. I have compared the FW/YH widths and offsets more than once and I can't find a difference, not even a small one. I also haven't found any difference in the shape of the hoops or the stamped center pieces.

Re: 15x7 YH Wheels, Rings & Caps

Thanks everyone for the input. Oddly enough not until I arrived home and logged did i realize all the good feedback I had received when checking today via my cell phone. But from all the feedback, unless I'm trying to be a purist which I can't given my SS is a 68, it seems FW's are the more cost effective solution and more likely to find. And from what was posted it appears that the offsets for a FW will be the same as the YH.

Thank you all very much, Scott

Go to your local swap meets this spring/summer and look at the codes on all the Rallyes... you should be able to find singles and pairs for $20 to $25 each with some 'bargaining'... try to check true, stay away from wallowed out stud holes, and heavy rust... Buy them local and no need to worry about shipping or the $cost of it.

PS. The most significant difference between YH's and FW's is a slight difference in the opening sizes of the slots...

Re: 15x7 YH Wheels, Rings & Caps

I sold some FW's in nice condition on Craigslist for $50 ea. Was a quick sale. Replaced them with chrome aftermarket as in your pic above.

Re: 15x7 YH Wheels, Rings & Caps

I am seeing the same slot dimensions on my YH and FW wheels: 3.06" average width for each slot and 0.95" average height for each slot. I'm giving averages because none of the five holes are perfectly identical to each other, even on the same wheel. (The variation on each slot is approximately +/- 0.005 inches.) I also compared tracings taken from a YH slot and an FW slot and I couldn't find any differences.

Thanks everyone and a few locals also recommended he summer swap meets for the best chance and the best advice be patient, lol. Going to try and go YH first if cost isn't absurd and if no luck the FW's.

Get in contact with the Pacific North West Camaro Club... Dan Boyle, Sam Besser and the rest are great folks and can probably point you in the right direction!

Thanks Dennis and I did join the PNCC about a month ago. I posted a buy interest on both their public and "insider" FB page.
