Help with tires

Hello,

I have wheels laying around that I would like to use on my 67 rs with 2 inch drop.
Front wheels are 18x8 with 4.5 BS
Rear wheels are 18x9.5 with 5.5 BS

Would these work? if so what size tires do you recommend for them not to rub. Appreciate all the help, Thanks.

Re: Help with tires

235 front and 255 rear would be safe imho. You might be able to push to 275 rear.

Re: Help with tires

I think 275 is pushing the limit Don unless maybe with enough BS . Hey C10Camaro let me know what you go with I have a 67 rs I got got told 255 was it for me on the back . That's on a 17x8 rim but I don't remember the BS. I want to switch rims and tires soon and don't wanna go over kill. I was going with the sizes you threw out Don 235 on the front and 255 on the back

Re: Help with tires

255-45-17x8" and 253-45-17x8 Foose Knuckles with BFG Force. I don't like drifting away from the original design and look of a first gen. Rubber band tires don't do them justice and the ride is compromised. No rubbing anytime on a 2" lowered 69, only less than an inch compared to my 55k mile all original car, they were low from the factory for the most part!! Re: Help with tires

Have you bolted the rims on to see if the back space would work? On my '67 rs I am pretty sure that a 5.5" BS on the rear would hit up against the leaf spring.

5.5" BS is too much I think unless you hammer some.

You should have about 6" from the axle flange to the inner wheel well and about 5" to the outer wheel well lip... so approximately 11" (give/take)
A 275 tire is about 10.8" ( +/- depending on Mfg.)

Plus sizing reduces the side wall height, which reduces tire flex...this is where you want to go IF you lower your car

From the link I posted....

With the 275/40-17 on 17 x 9.5" with 5.5 bs I do get a slight rubbing on the top inside edge of rear drivers tire to inner wheel well when the axle is tilted/angled (going over speed bump at an angle, reversing down steep grade while turning etc...) My 12 bolt wheel mounting surface with discs is the exact same length as a factory 12 bolt with drums wheel mount surface.( rotors are just a little thicker then the drums so when I cut my ends off for pressed on bearings/moser axles I compensated for the added rotor thickness)

Re: Help with tires

If you go with less than 5.5 backspacing on a 9.5 wheel you are going to be hitting the quarter panel lip. 5.5 is about right for a 9.5 wheel imho...
