Ordering Wheels for my 69

Planning on ordering wheels for my 69 this week. Researched this extensively and wanted to share before I made the purchase.

For the fronts I am planning to go with 17x8” with 4.75BS and 235/45/17 tire. I have a stock subframe with ridetech upper and lower control arms and coil overs. This should put my wheel height at 25.3” high. I notice majority of people use 4.75BS but some rain 5” BS. Which is better for my set up?

Out back I plan to run an 17x11” wide wheel and either a 295/35/17 which would put me at 25.1” tall or a 315/35/17 which is 25.7” tall. I would think that either of these would match the front pretty good?? Thoughts? Back is mini-tubbed with ridetech 4 link.

Thanks!

Re: Ordering Wheels for my 69

Rear tire should always be taller and have more sidewall than the front.

I think the car will push with 315 rear and 235 front. Try to get more tire up front. At least 245...

If I go with a 245/45/17 front will the 4.75BS still work on a 17x8” wheel? That looks like it will increase the tire height to 25.7” in the front

I would look at a 40 series tire for the front. I generally offset series front to rear by 5. Backspacing should be more or less independent of wheel width if you centered the wheel in the well.

Re: Ordering Wheels for my 69

Narrowed it down to these 2 sizes. I’m not crazy about 18” in the front but that may be the better option.

235/45R17 Front and 305/35R18 rear, height will be 25.3 front and 26.41 rear

Or

245/40R18 Front and 295/35R18 Rear heights will be 25.7” front and 26.1” rear

Originally I wanted to go with 17” all the way around but it seems that not many rear tires are available for 17” anymore

Re: Ordering Wheels for my 69

Second option is much better imho but I would go at least 315.

I wanted a 315 or a 305 but they aren’t manufactured. The only street tire available that I can find is a 315/30R18 which is only 25.4” tall and 3.7” sidewall height which would be lower than the front....frustrating!

Re: Ordering Wheels for my 69

Check 30 series rear and 35 series front. Keep that separation of 5.

I had the same issues trying to find a tire combo that had a touch more sidewall in back.

I needed a 275 in back so I used a 275/35/18 25.6" tall (Bridgestone RE71R) They did not have a 40 or 45 in an 18".

I wanted a 245 in front but it was to tall at 25.7" so I had to settle for a 235/40/18 at 25.4" tall.
