Another wheel and tire ?

69 SS 396 with ride tech street grip suspension. Looks like most of the wheels I like only come in these sizes.
Rear 17x9 w 5.25 BS
Front 17x8 w 4.50 BS
What are safe tire sizes? Id like to use 235/45 fronts 275/40 rears but would settle for 255/45 if I have to.

Re: Another wheel and tire ?

These are the correct sizes

17x7 = 4.25"bs
17x8 = 4.75"bs
17x8.5 = 5" bs
17x9 = 5.25"bs
17x9.5 = 5.5" bs

I canít really say. Maybe someone with that combo will respond. Or use this size comparison tool:

Also need to take into account other modifications, such as aftermarket disc brakes, if your car has them.

Re: Another wheel and tire ?

There are guys on this site who think anything wider than a 225 tire is sheer madness and guys who like to push the envelope and go with up to 255 and even 275. Going wider carries some risk...

Re: Another wheel and tire ?

I'm running a 245/45 on a 17X8 4.75" backspacing (Vintage Wheel Works V45) in the front and a 275/40 on 17X9.5 with 5.5 backspacing and have no rubbing at all. CPP disk brake conversion and 1" lowered front springs.
