center cap color

hello all,

I purchased a set of the flat (lower profile) center caps to replace the derby style. They have a duller, yellowish appearance and I am guessing it is because it is stainless steel and not chromed? They cam from summit racing,, OER brand name.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/oer-wr1014s

My original derbys are bright and match my trim ring, the new ones look very different.

Does anyone know a source for Chrome caps? did they even make them? if not,, where can i purchase a set of cap and rings that will have the same color?

I tried to upload a picture but i must not have enough post still at this time.

Re: center cap color

Factory (GM) stainless steel was flash chromed. I'm not aware of any repro caps that are. There could be ?

The ornament is diecast chrome and is removable, so that part should be satisfactory, right ? You could see what it would cost to have the dishes chromed. You can get an online estimate here, just provide some pics....https://www.ogdenchrome.com/ Ask them them about flash chroming.

Re: center cap color

I just ordered a set from Eckler's. 33-182496-1. All they could tell me is they're
made in the USA. They have a 20% off sale through today with a $150 minimum
order. This is my first time ordering from them. Fingers crossed the quality is good.
I also ordered trim rings. 33-179374-1. They do accept returns for any reason but
you have to pay return shipping costs.

Re: center cap color

I ordered the same caps from Summit about 2 years ago. I didn't notice any yellow tint. Here's a pic for comparison. I believe most vendors get the caps from OER.

Re: center cap color

Summit is real good about returns and exchanges...maybe try another set. I know lighting has a lot to do with it, but those do look a bit brassy or gold, especially the second photo.

Re: center cap color

Regarding photo posting...you only get so much space and with the pics in your garage, you've probably maxed out. You can get more space here by becoming by buying a premium membership, or post through a third-party site like Photo Bucket, Imgur, or Flickr.

I use summit a lot and they are one of the best with customer service.

The flash went off on the second photo, made it appear a little worse. I am going to take them outside in natural light and check again. I also ordered chrome caps to compare to.

Re: center cap color

I just double checked my order and confirmed I did get the stainless version. I second guessed myself when you mentioned they came in chrome as well.
