Nitrogen filled tires..........Hmmm.......

http://www.dunntire.com/InflationFuelSystem/

Advantage or don't care?

In an jet passenger plane or a fighter, I can understand, I wouldn't want the water vapor inside the tire to freeze and become imbalanced when I land......

Re: Nitrogen filled tires..........Hmmm.......

I think it is good for racing, tires don't heat up as much as air filled tires. At least that is what I remember from when I was a kid at the race car shop and asked my dad why they filled the race car tires with it (super modifieds.. ISMA).. If the air in the tire heats up it will fill more volume and the tire will get bigger possible blowing or at least screwing the gearing and contact patch up. As far as fuel savings over a properly filled air tire I doubt it....

I think it is used b/c the nitrogen atom/molecule is physically bigger than oxygen is so it don't leak through the tire's rubber as fast.

So if you leave out the about 20 percent oxygen that is naturally in the air, less gas molecules will pass through the tire and it will hold pressure longer!

Re: Nitrogen filled tires..........Hmmm.......

I have no problem seeing it used in racing and in cold weather, as in aircraft tires. But, I'll be dipped in dog do-do if I'll pay to use it in a common pass car tire.
