Steel wheels and dog dish caps

I am builiding a COPO clone from a base small block car. Drum now but will be disc on front.

I beleive the COPO wheels were 14x7 steelies.

Does anyone make a repro steel wheel and repro dog dish caps?

I don't see them at D&R or Classic Industries.

Where else should I look? I heard about boneyard station wagons.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Re: Steel wheels and dog dish caps

Stockton Wheel or Wheels Vintique can make copys of the original 14x7 steel wheels that came on copo's that got poverty caps for less than you can buy the originals. Original 69 Camaro discs WILL clear with 14x7 steel wheels and you can even get Wilwood discs to clear with just a touch of clearancing on the calipers. The dog dish caps you are looking for came on literally a hundred thousand 69 and 70 economy Camaros, Novas and Chevelles. If you look around they can be found for less than a hundred a set.

A COPO could also have 15 x 7 rally wheels.

A friend did one years ago with plain 15 x 7 wheels off a 77 Monte Carlo. Nearly free.

Did a COPO have 14" or 15" wheels? I keep seeing different info.

Re: Steel wheels and dog dish caps

Does anyone know the answer to these questions?

Correct steel wheel size for a COPO or L89 car?

Is it 14" with drum and 15" with disk?

Are the dogdish hubcaps the same on 14" and 15"?

Re: Steel wheels and dog dish caps

I am starting work on a '69 and I am interested in the COPO look also. If you do a search on this site you can find some discussion about steel wheels that will give the look but aren't correct stampings of originals. I think they are found on early 70's GM cars. Here is a link for new dog dish caps, but I think they are pricey. I'm cheap. http://www.hubcaps.org/chevelle.html They are the last item on the page.

Bigproj69

Thanks for the link. I first need to find out what size rim.

What motor are you running?

How original are you making yours?

Re: Steel wheels and dog dish caps

I am going with the Wheel Vintigues 62's. 15x7 up front and 15x8 on the rear with dog dish hubcaps. Summit has the cheapest prices on these wheels, plus shipping is only 9 bucks for all the wheels.
