Hub cap-wheel vsRally wheel, 68 Camaro

I have an original 68 350SS, front disc brakes, with original (I think) wheels with full size 3 spoke SS hubcaps. I've bought Red Stripe F70-14 tires.

Question 1, subjective view:
If I want to convert to Rally Wheels, will that add or subtract in your opinion? Hub caps are rare but not as pretty as Rally Wheels?

Question 2, objective info:
Are the wheels I have Rally wheels underneath the hubcaps. They look like it, except that there are 6 long holes instead of 5, and they're black, not silver? Could I just buy rings and center caps, and have a Rally Wheel?

Rally Wheels as an option in 1968 cost less than Hub Caps

Answer to subjective #1:
  • Do what you think looks right.
  • You will drive yourself crazy building a car based on other's opinions.
  • Rally Wheels are a dime a dozen (or $35 each); hubcaps are rarely seen.

Answer to objective question #2:

A GM Rally is a GM Rally. I've never heard of one having more slots than another.

It sounds like you have standard steel wheels under your hubcaps.

Here is a picture of both wheels--they are different. Which do you have?

Hi Brent. Good looking car you've got by the way.

I remembered wrong, there are 5 holes, and they look like the rally wheels and are stamped XB. But they have always been black and with hub caps.

I have another pair from wrecked 68SS, I bought them in 1980. They've been outside, so they're rusty, and markings can't be read, but they look exactly the same.

Does this help?

I got pictures, but don't know how to paste them in...

Re: Hub cap-wheel vsRally wheel, 68 Camaro

Here is some more information on rally wheel codes to help you figure out what your wheel came from.

According to the first thread below, "XB" is apparently a rally wheel code for a Chevelle 14x6--is your wheel 14x6?

The second link lists Camaro Rally codes--XB is not in that one.

Whatever the case, pics will tell the story.
