would it make any difference (4" or 4.5" backspacing)

Hey guys here is my concern..

When I put set of 17 by 8 torq thrust wheels for the front with 245/45 tires , the tires started to rub against the fender lip too bad. I had to change the tires to 235/ 45 to solve the problem;however, they still rub.

I had to get a new set of stock springs to raise the car up to get rid of the rubbing problem and dragging of the long tube headers on small speed bumps. Now it is at the shop to put the new springs.

I contacted American Racing, and they recommend 4.5" backspacing for the front wheels. However, I found out that the wheel & Tire shop put the wheels with 4" backspacing, it would take weeks to order wheels with 4.5 " backspacing.

Since I am putting stock springs back in order to get the stock height, Is it still worth it to get a new set of front wheels with 4.5" backspacing instead of the 4" backspacing or it is not worth it?

Thanks guys

Re: would it make any difference (4" or 4.5" backspacing)

Sorry for the lack of response but the majority of info in this forum is on the 1st gens. I really do not know the correct backspace for your car but I would say that in my opinion yes a 1/2" could certainly mean the difference between rubbing and not rubbing. If a tire is rubbing on a sharp edge it could mean new tires or worse yet a tire failure while driving. Just not worth in my opinion - get the correct backspace but 1st find out what it should be. My guess would be that it could be like a 1st gen and a 4.75 on an 8' wheel may be even better. Good luck.
