Maximum front tire size on 1 '69 Camaro

Will a set of 225 x 60 x 15s tires on standard size 15x7 in rims rub on a '69 camaro frontend? I'm currently running a set of 215x65x15s w/o any problems, would like a wider more aggressive look...my rear size is 255x60x15s.

thanks Dave

You should not have any problems with 225/60's. I have seen many stock appearing '69s running 235/60 15's with no rubbing...

from your experience, then should I get a set of 235x60x15s for the front, since my rear tires are 255x60x15s?

I think wider on the front looks better if the cars stance is more level, if you have the back of the car raised up some then narrower in front. That's just me though...

If your body bushings and front end are in good condition, it's aligned and you are running wheels with the same back spacing as the "FW" ralleys or the "YH" Z/28 ralleys the 235's will not be a problem at all...

Re: Maximum front tire size on 1 '69 Camaro

Sorry to ask a different question, but I have a chance to buy some rear 15 x 8.5 inch wide torq thrust wheels, they were on a 70 chevelle, will these work on a stock suspension 69 camaro? I dont know the back spacing on these wheels, but I was told they did not stick out past the fenders on the chevelle... Thanks.. A

Check the backspacing they may fit, but at 8.5" I would double check to make sure. With 15's anymore than @ 4.5" BS and they hit the tie rods, and or the a-arms. I've seen some guys run 4.75" BS on 16's without issue, and even more on larger wheels, but you have to really check the clearances when go that far.

I'm running a 15x8" 4.5 BS front wheel with a 235-60-15 tire. 2" Hotchkis drop springs, 1.5 deg. negative camber, and button head wheelwell trim screws.

On the rear yes, no worries. I would still double check the BS. (should be @ 4.5-5")

This sizing must vary on the '67. The '67 I purchased last month has 235-60-15 on the front, and they rub the frame front and rear when cranking the wheel in either direction.

Kind of a trade off, '69 has a deeper wheel area than '67 & '68 but has the flat top wheel opening. Proper wheel backspacing has a lot to do with fit, as does disc or drum brakes as they move the wheel mounting pad some. Check the 3 links I posted in the sticky thread in this forum for a lot more on wheel and tire fit...
