is there anywhere to get wider rally wheels? what is the width of the ones that come on a '68 rs? how wide of a tire will fit on there rims/wheel well permitting?

i want to keep the regular size rally wheels in the front and put wider tires on the back

Re: rally wheels

a stock 1968 rs would have come with 14 x 6.
you can put a 14 or 15 x 7 on there with no problems... easy to find in original gm or aftermarket.

Re: rally wheels

You can easily put a 15X8 ralley on the rear

Re: rally wheels

Tony,

Nice look on the 67'. Where did you get your wheels and what are the tire sizes? I recently purchased a 68' RS and have been wanting to change wheels and tires. The car came out of Georgia w/BFG 235/60R15's white letter on the rear and 215/60R15's on the front. Both were mounted on Torque Thrust II wheels that I really don't care for. I was going to go to Cooper Cobra's as in the picture of the 68' in my first post, but I don't want that over raked look. Do you have any other pictures of your car?

Re: rally wheels

I run 15x8 front and rear. BFG 225/60R15 front and they rub a bit so 215/should be better. In the rear 265/60R15 and they are super looking. Fill the wheel opening and have a great rear stance I had to lighten the pics so you could see the tires/wheels

Re: rally wheels

Thanks Larry....The backspacing is 4.5 I have another set from a 69 corvette and think they are the same 4.5 backspacing. They are in the shed and have been there a while so my memory is not exact as to the backspacing.

Re: rally wheels

Im also going to be getting 4 new rallye wheels for mine. I have 14's on front now and will change those to 15" rims and new BFG's while my current rears are P/235/70 R15 and I want to keep those tires and only buy new 15's tires for the front. Im considering getting all 15 x 7 rallye wheels so I can rotate them. Can I use P/235/70/R15 tires in front or will they be to big? Im looking for ideas here trying to stay the same all the way around.

Re: rally wheels

Jim..
The 70's are going to rub for sure on a 67/68 however may not on your 69 due to fender width. If you want to rotate just rotate side to side instead of the x factor. With the miles I put on a year, between 1,000 and 2,500 having different sizes front and rear I don't worry about rotation, I worry about dry rot

Re: rally wheels

SixtyAte,

Thank you for the heads up. Are you running air shocks on the rear?

Thanks,

Larry

Re: rally wheels

Larry,
No air shocks. I put all new shocks and springs front and rear back in 2000. I never liked air shocks because they kill the ride and play havoc with the shock mount area at the top. They are able to rip the metal at the top mount due to the stiff/solid way it will hit the bumps.

Re: rally wheels

what size wheel/tire can you fit in the rear without worrying about any modification? im not lowering the car at all and i would like to fit 15x10 in the rear with something close to 295s on them. does anyone know if this would fit? i wouldnt mind if i had to roll the fender lip, but i dont want to do any kind of tubbing

would they need more than 5" backspacing? i see sixtyate said he has 4.5" backspacing on the 15x7s. i dont know how close they are to the inside. looking at his pics, i dont think another .5-1" of backspacing would make the tires stick out past the wheel well. are ralley wheels available in 15x10 with 5 or 5.5" backspacing?
