Question See-through rims...

Did everybody see those clear "see-through" polycarbonate plastic rims at SEMA somebody posted pic's of??

WAY cool to me BUT not a good idea either..................

Somebody somewhere was going to make "spun/woven/wrapped" carbon fiber rims at one time but I don't know if they ever did or not??

I want to say, "Motor Wheel" at Lansing, MI was looking into making them??

Hope its better than the current ones I am seeing on the market. I see that 3M is making clear stone guard panels that adhear to body panels. They are precut. That would work and not flop all over the hood and fender. But not for our applications.

Thumbs up Re: See-through rims...

See through bras!!

Now this is turning into a COOL, informative thread, imho!!

B/c I didn't know about 3-M's clear stick-on "rock-guard" stuff.

I did see the TV show recently where they stuck a gigantic decal-like multi-piece covering on a car so that it looked custom with all sorts of designs on it, but NOT painted!!

It turned an unfinished car into one that looked like it was ready for NASCAR...

Please continue..

Re: See-through rims...

To get back on track here - if anyone is still interested (about the bras?) I did see the wheel in person on and off a car. Even if it holds up and does not discolor what about the brake dust? There is no openings or designs in the wheel so you have to take them off to clean the inside. I don't know what you guys think but not too much fun for me. About the carbon fiber wheels Dymag I believe makes them - they were at SEMA also - the hoops are carbon fiber the centers are traditional. They are very light obviously and very expensive. What a surprise.

Re: See-through rims...

i would guess people would have to use ceramic brake pads to keep brake dust to a minimum. that would probably be the only way the wheels wouldnt have to be cleane every time the car is driven
