need to know rim size on 69' camaro 327

I'm restoring a customer's 69' camaro and I need to know what size rim came with the car. The options are 15x6, 15x7 or 15x8. He needs 15s because he now has front disc brakes. It's a 69' camaro convt. 327.

Its my understanding it was the SS and z28 opitions that had 15" ex factory the rest had 14"
Though I believe 15" was a opition???

Only Z/28 and copos got 15" wheels. SS with disc's still got 14's... As a restoration shop you need to invest in a few books, for all Camaros start with the latest edition of the white book, it describes all the rpo options and what went with what. I moved this to the wheel and tire forum, it kinda fits in better...

Pretty sure the base Camaros got 14 x 6. SS got 14 x 7.

Check out http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#Wheels

A 327 would have had 14x6 XF steel rims and hubcaps unless the car was ordered with Ralleys which would be XG 14x6 rims.

My 69 SS still has 14 X 7s on it. In fact, I just bought new ralleye wheels for it.

Re: need to know rim size on 69' camaro 327

I have had two 1969's.

The first one was an all original car. It had 4 wheel drums. The car came with 14x6 Rally's.

The one I have now is a nightmare. It was like Freddy Kruger but I have turned the tides. I am now in control and I intend on keeping it that way.

The current 1969 has disc brakes up front and 15x7 Rally's on it now.

I do not believe 15x8 'Vette Rally's were ever offered on a 1969.

Bottom Line: In 1969 Rim sizes were mostly either 14x6 or 15x7. There were some 14x7's offered but they are hard to find today. If you want to make your customer happy and the car has disc brakes up front, go with 15x7 all the way around with the same tire size.

Good Luck!!

I agree, I dont know why 14 where ever fitted, the 15 tyes fit with a far better overall appearance in the wheel wells....
Sure 14s still look good, but just fall short of top overall design

Re: need to know rim size on 69' camaro 327

Thanks for the response. Not only will they be happy with the same size all around but this allows you to rotate the tires and check for irregular wear in certain areas of teh vehicle and or tires. To the others here I am speaking of 15" white letter tires which are not unidirectional like 16's, 17's 18's 19's etc.

Steptoe, I feel that 15's look & handle better than 14's. I know I had 14's. I would recommend P235/60/R15 all the way around. I have them on my 1969 and they do not rub. P 215/65/R15 will also work as that's what the 1982-1987 Z28's had. I'm talking regular Z's not IROC's. Even P 225/70/R15 should work as that's what a 1978-1981 Z28 came with so did the Pontiac Trans Am and even police cars through the early to mid 1990's.

Bottom Line: A 1969 Camaro is not an IROC-Z or a Z06 Corvette. I had two 3rd gen Camaro's including a Z28 and a 5.7L IROC-Z. They would run circles around my 1969 as far as handling. Unless your customer is spending big bucks on a pro-touring hi end suspension & handling to make the car handle like it's on rails, then the unnecessary expense of 16's, 17's 18's is not worth while.

Just my 2 cents.

To all of you: Good Luck with your cars. Hopefully Santa will bring us all some much needed items for our Camaro's.

Yeah they do...I borrowed some a while back 235x15x60 to try (replace my 14 ss cragers 235x14 x60 with white lettering) wasnt much of a difference thu
Got mine back on now...15s Do look much better
I had some 14x 245x 60s ages ago on the rear looked nice but hit a road bump with passengers in the rear and they just touched
