future engine build question?

In the future I'm building a 496 BB. Before I owned this car I had a 99 Mustang that I supercharged. After I did that I was addicted to boost. My question is when I build my 496 Should I go 8.25:1 for a future F1 Procharger or build a high compression motor 10.25:1 and call it a day? I know with the lower compression HP won't be as much ,but when it's boosted I would be around 700+ or so. Or the High I could have more power now.

Have it both ways. Start with a moderate compression 496 with some older closed chamber oval port heads. When you decide to boost it, go with something with open chambers. That swap is generally worth better than a point of compression.

Once I build the engine I'd rather not take it apart again. Thanks good idea though.

If I remember right, some small, early, 97 cc closed chamber heads on a flat-top pistoned 496 using .020" thick shims will put you something like 10 to 1 CR. then later change to stock 118 cc open chamber heads and you will be down around 8.6 or so, so you can boost away..

I know...I built the motor I put in this April. It was the first motor I ever did and it's still running strong to this day. I am still kinda proud of myself . BUT I was nervous as hell. The last thing I wanted to do was pull the motor again. I'm getting too old for that. Build it once and just add to it.

A swap from closed chamber irons to open chamber aluminum heads is an over the fender thing.No need to R&R the entire assy.Sell the bathtubs on e-bay to offset the cost of the new tin heads.With a .038 composite the open chambers combined with the heat transfer of tin will allow you to use boost.

How will having an open chamber head react to a 8.25:1 motor? I see all of you are saying closed chamber then switch to open.?

The open chambered heads aren't all that good N/A'd, but they will be great once you blow or NOS her due to their lower CR. that is good for boost and such..

Naturally Aspirated it will hurt your performance,but you said you wanted the option down the road to run boost.The open chamber tin head will unshroud the valves and stave off detonation under boost = HP.

I am going with a Aluminum (sp) head for sure. I have the hotchkis lowering springs and I was told If I went with the BB and those heads I shouldn't have a problem. If I have to add a 1/2 spacer that will do.
