what kind of headers - new crate 502 cui.in a 1969

I`m planing to put in a new crate 502 cui. into a 1969 Camaro.
It got power-steering and power-brakes.
What kind of headers would be the best fitting in this car??

Thank you,
Tom.

Re: what kind of headers - new crate 502 cui.in a 1969

I have a 502 waiting to be installed just have a few things left to do . I went out and bought Hedmans and will try them first when they get here. I talked to a hooker, hedman and both told me you will have a clearance issue with the zz502 alum heads that will have to be ground to fit properly. We will see in a couple days.

I bought the hedmans because I saw a picture of a 68 with the zz502 and PS and they fit.

Thanks 68 zz502.

It seems to be a hard question.
Maybe we should go on a set of shortys.

I will look forward to hear from your test fitting.

I just installed the 502 and let me tell you that the Hedmans did not fit without alot of massaging. The lower head bolts hit the header flange which they said it would BUT the drivers side didn't even come close to clearing the PS box. I had to dimple it more than I wanted and will look for different headers later. BB frame mounts were used also.

Hooker Super Comp 2205,..2" long tubes (though in some publications it's listed as 1-7/8"). Best fitting of them all,..no PS clearance issues. If your heads use studs, replace the lower studs, just below the header flanges, with regular bolts.

Other than that, I had a minor fuel line re-route and the rest was bolt-up and start-up.

2205-1 is the coated version,..about $500. Do a search on this site, " Hooker 2205" for more info. I've tried Hedman's and the fit is not nearly as good as the Hooker 2205's for many reasons.

Good luck!

I also have the Hedman elite shorty headers, I had to grind on the flanges for lower head bolt clearance, and it is a TIGHT fit at the steering box but they work. "I do have the correct frame mounts" I like the extra ground clearance but I think full length headers would give a little more power.
