Red face Stupid question?

This might sound stupid in the ears of motor experts, but - I have to ask in order to learn..

I hear of expressions like "Yeah, it's a 350 - 01 block" or "it's a such and such cu.in - 01 block". What does the expression 01 mean? Was that the first series of engines in a particular size or what? Did all (327's, 350's or 396's) have the same "code?
What can you tell me in order for me to learn?

Thanks for helping out

Re: Stupid question?

I assume you are referring to a 350 010 block in whick case the 010 is the last 3 digits of the casting number of the block. The 010 block was widely used from 1969 through about 1980. In 1969 this casting was also used for the 302.

Re: Stupid question?

rafbody - not really sure wether they mean 01 or 010...Judging from your comment, a 67 Camaro could not have a 327 010 if they started in 69??
