intake casting numbers

I need help with an intake casting number. It's a cast iron, big block, oval port, Q-jet intake. The number is 3888848. Might be 3888948. I havn't been able to figure out what it came off. Nothing important, just have it sitting in the garage.

Thanks.

Re: intake casting numbers

Looks like it is a 3883948. Here is what it came on: 396 or 427. Ok here is one with this casting: 3886848, it is a 1968 396. Niether of your castings are right, has to be one of these two.

I'll have to check it again when I get home tonight. I think it might be 3883948.

Re: intake casting numbers

Intake #3883948 is a 396-325HP Q-jet. Used on '66 & '67 BB's.

It should be capable of producing about 400/425 HP with some engine mods while still based on the 396" platform.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. I may be interested in the one you have depending on the dates. In the process of restoring a '67 Camaro BB with the same intake on top. I do have the correct one here already for this build, but would still be interested in your's. Not a real good performance piece using the Q-J carb. G.M. knew this and used the C.I. Holley's on the higher HP units in the Chevelles.

Re: intake casting numbers

I'll have to check it again tonight. The guy I got it from said he thought it was off of a 67 or 68 396 325. I'm not using it and have no need for it as may car is blown. A friend was asking if he could "have" it since it's just sitting there. Another friend wanted to buy it. That's why I was trying to figure out what it cam out of and what it's worth. It looks to be in good shape. If you want you can email me and I'll get the correct numbers and date off of it for you.

Re: intake casting numbers

Thanks for the info guys. Okay, it looks like it is 3883948. Used on '66-'67 big blocks from what you have said. Not sure how the date works. It looks like J19 6 ?
