hood clearence

I have a 69 with a cowl hood and the RPM Airgap intake and holley carb . They clear ok. I bought a 67 with a flat hood. Will the same combo on the 69 clear the flat hood? All help appreciated. Thanks, Wayne

Re: hood clearence

Depends on a few things such as motor stands, drop base air cleaner, filter height.
I have a SBC with a RPM intake, Edelbrock 600 and a drop base air cleaner with a 3" K&N filder & K&N open element (flow through) top. It barely clears my flat hood on the front side of the air cleaner. Less than 1/2. more like 3/8 - 1/4 inch.

I THINK the air gap and the RPM are the same height. Someone else might know better.

Re: hood clearence

The air gap and rpm are the same ht. Mine cleared too, but again with an aftermarket drop base air cleaner.

If you use a original style cowl induction air cleaner, that could be your downfall. You might try searching for "cowl clearance" or stuff like that, see what you find. This has been discussed lots of times, I seem to recall people having to use different thinner gaskets to seal the air cleaner to the hood?
