Fuel Tank Install

Should a new fuel tank be flushed or is it ok to install right out of the box with no prep?

Re: Fuel Tank Install

I have the same question, and also, the nitrile steel tanks from summit, should they be painted or coated first? I m concerned about adhesion because of the gavanized coat......any opinions?

Re: Fuel Tank Install

You never know how long they have been sitting around. It's not like they make thousands of these, so expect some contamination from shelf life. I would not only flush it but coat it as well. Since you're goin to all that trouble why take a chance? POR makes a good product to prep and coat your gas tank.

Re: Fuel Tank Install

I've always installed them right out of the box without any problems.

Re: Fuel Tank Install

This is a new SS tank from OER. I was going to install it right out of box but thought I should check to see how everyone else was handling it.

Re: Fuel Tank Install

i`ve used a ton of tanks from spi...i`ve never flushed them out...only problem i`ve ran into is the lack of a baffle in one of them...you should be good to go outta the box, but if it makes you feel better, run your hand on the bottom to feel for particulate...if crap`s gonna get into the tank, it`ll get in through the same hole as your hand...
