Question Low fuel level in clear fuel filter

I installed a clear fuel filter in front of my carb so I can see if there is any junk getting up to carb from tank. I noticed the other day before I started the camaro that it was full and only had a small bubble of air in it. I pushed the car out of the garage and fired it up. Still having problems with the electric choke. I have power to the choke and for some reason it won't start up. Just cranks over. Even when I pump the crap out of it and you can smell and see gas squirting. Only will fire when choke is held closed manually and fuel dumped down carb.... anyhow.....
got her started and was running ok. Checking out how to adjust the electric choke when I noticed that the fuel filter was almost dry.
I filled up the car before I parked it and the gas station is only 3 miles from home. I know I am not getting that bad of gas mileage, but is this normal?
The car did not sputter or die, but it looked like the fuel pump quit working and was barely pumping anything in the fuel filter.
The car runs great under hard acceleration so if the pump was going bad, wouldn't it spit and sputter when mashing the throttle?
Any suggestions?
I thought about adding an electric fuel pump and getting rid of the manual one. I intend on the next 5 years or so putting in a EFI big block. Should I wait on the pump or what?
Thanks

Re: Low fuel level in clear fuel filter

That's why I don't use clear filters....they just drive you crazy.

Yeah, I would say wait on the electric pump until you do your EFI conversion.

It would need to be a lot higher pressure pump than for the carb you have now.

it is normal for the filter to seem empty. Mine is the same way....

Re: Low fuel level in clear fuel filter

Those clear filters (and their rubber hose and clamps) are a fire waiting to happen; there's a reason the OEM fuel line on the pressure side of the pump is steel with steel fittings.
