TIming marks 350 GM crate

I just got my GM 350 crate running. It runs pretty good but I went to set the timing and the timing mark is about 1 inch BTDC the timing tab?? When I move the distributor to move the mark closer the engine misfires and dies. Itís a 68 rs with HEI distributor.

Re: TIming marks 350 GM crate

check what you have for a crate motor. If you have an lm-1 and a small balancer you may need a different pointer. Proform makes a balancer cover that will move the marks t the standard position. The only way to tell is actually find TDC. SOrry this is so vague but we need more info. My 350/330 ho motor uses a 70 lt-1 8 inch balancer and the standard 1:30 or 2 oclock ish position. I had a tough time with a 260 horse lm-1 and the 6-3/4 balancer.

Did you disconnect the vac advance hose on the dist before checking timing? Make sure you plug the hose too.
