Derale fan, clutch-do I need a spacer?

I just got done reading a lot on Fan options- thanks too many of you I realize I'm going with the Derale Clutch Fan and not the electric fans. My question is whether or not I'll need a spacer to get my fan into the shroud far enough to cool the radiator? Currently the fan sits perfectly into the shroud with a 2" spacer.

This is my setup:

68 coupe
383
stock shroud
flexalite fan w/ 2 in spacer
short water pump

Any suggestions?

Usually, fan clutches do not require spacers, but yours may be the exception. If the fan is where its supposed to be, then go for it. Use good bolts, Gr 8 & Loctite.

Does the clutch go infront of fan (closest to grill)?

Yes, clutch goes toward radiator, then fan blades.

Re: Derale fan, clutch-do I need a spacer?

For best cooling, the fan blades should be about 30 % into the shroud opening . Put a straight edge across the inner (nearest raidator) shroud opening and see if the fan just touches it. If not, try it with the spacer. If setup properly with the fan into the opening, you can drop your running temp 15-20 degrees easily from running it 2 inches away...
