Rear Main Seal Installation

I am currently building a 350 sb and looking for guidance on rear seal installation (1piece). The installation documentation with Fel-Pro does not go into much detail. Any help will be appreciated!

1) I assume the open side showing the spring faces in towards the block.

2) Should I use sealant on the OD of the seal and bearing cap?

3) Pretty sure I need to apply grease to the sealing surface?

Thanks

Re: Rear Main Seal Installation

use vasaline...grease will not break down in the oil well, and could clog oil passages...th espring side goes in towards the front of the motor...sealing comes from the painted outer surface of the seal...no sealant nessecary...hope this helps...

Re: Rear Main Seal Installation

cc,
Do you have the entire seal housing off the engine ? If so be careful when you tighten it back up. It tends to want to move and get the seal off center. If you are real careful and tighten each bolt a little at a time until thay are all snug, it wont move. Just keep an eye on it while you tighten the bolts. I usually put assembly lube on the seal.
