LT1 in 91 Camaro

What is required to put a LT1 from a 96 Caprice (automatic) into a 91 Camaro, keeping the 5 speed?

If it had a TPI or V8 for that matter, it should bolt in and then you will need to use an LT1 harness out of the donor car along with the computer.....with a complete re-wire. Then you will need to address the cooling system......new hoses that are routed slightly different and you will need to modify the fuel system as in routing the hoses differently......that is if it had a TPI.....if it had the TBI, you will need a different pump in the tank.

If you have a 6 cyl in the 91 Camaro, that is a whole different story.

Please check THIS THREAD.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Re: LT1 in 91 Camaro

a friend of mine is putting a Caprice LT1/Roadmaster 4L60e in a Camaro that left the factory with a multi point injected 2.8/5 speed in it, but currently has a carb'ed 350/700r4 in it now.
he's already modified the Caprice harness to get rid of the useless stuff, and is going to make it up as he goes, using as many junkyard and new GM parts as he can.

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Re: LT1 in 91 Camaro

My main concern is adapting the LT1 to the 5 speed. The LT1 was attached to a 4L60E, which I also have. The Camaro has a TPI 305 in it now.

You should be good. It will be a direct bolt up with no mods at all. Make sure you install a good needle pilot bearing in the LT1 crank.
