I'm finding that a lot of calculations require deck height. Is there a way of measuring that? I always thought that a general rule of thumb is if the stamped numbers on the pad are gone, it's probably been decked.....but just how much?? Can you measure from the bottom of the cylinder to the top and use some kind of a chart?? Thanks!

it's actaully easier than you think.

Bring a piston up to TDC. You can use a dial indictor to be sure, or just kinda "feel it."
Then lay a straightedge across the deck, over the piston. It'd important that you check above the pin, front or back of the piston, not a side.

Then just see how much feeler gauge you cen put between the straightedge and the piston.

That's your deck ht.

Piton, now that's funny. It's a 'slang' word in spanish.

When my wife asks me what I'm doing in the bathroom....I say "I'm piton"

The piston will rock in the bore and the DITH will be different at top vs bottom. You have to measure top and bottom and average the 2 readings.
