Question compression question

I'm getting a 454 built. Machine shop say's it can get me 450-500 hp with 9 1/2 to 1 compression?.....does this make sence. I thought you would have to have at least 10-10 1/2 to 1. then build from there

you can make 450-500 on 9:1, it's matching parts correctly, example you cant have a HUGE cam if you don't have the compression to support it, you could have the best heads on the market but they will not perform to their potential unless you match your cam to their specs and your compression to your cam's specs. In a nutshell that would be my definition on how to build horse power efficiently, and correctly.

The only Mustang I'd ever own is a Fender.
