Vortec Intake Height

Can anyone tell me if a set of 906 Vortec heads with an aftermarket intake is the same height as Gen. 1 heads with a 3932472 (Z28 Snowflake) intake? I have the latter and am thinking of using the Vortec setup but am concerned about hood clearance with my cowl induction air cleaner setup on my 69.
I found the dimentions for the Vortec intake but can't find it for the 3932472.
Thanks

Re: Vortec Intake Height

I don't think you will have any problem with clearance if you have a cowl hood. I'm running a vic jr, 2'' spacer, and a 3'' breather and it fits inside the hood hole.
Get the 062 heads, they flow better than the 906's.

Re: Vortec Intake Height

You may have misunderstood...with my present setup, the intake height is critical in order for the seal to fit correctly against the hood. I don't want to buy and set up all this to find out it's too tall or low (even though too low could easily be corrected). I just assumed I wasn't the first to do this and that someone here had done it before and could answer my question.
Also, do you know any links where I could find out more about the 906 & 062 heads? Thanks

Oh, ok I understand now . You need to get the correct height so your breather seal will fit properly. I don't know about that but I do know about vortec heads. Get the 062's, aslo know as tripple triangle's, 3 saw teeth (referring to the casting on the front of the heads): http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56505

Re: Vortec Intake Height

Why not buy some Dart or AFR heads and use the 472 intake you have.Vortecs are not the hot setup that some people think they are.By the time you buy the heads intake valve covers and rockers you can get conventional heads that flow better for the same or less money.

Re: Vortec Intake Height

It's attractive to me because I already have the intake and covers. I also have a connection at a machine shop for the heads. I haven't talked to the owner about it yet, but may consider installing 2.02s if I go that route. He does sell aftermarket heads as well. Guess I could try to measure the 472 on the car...

Re: Vortec Intake Height

2.02 intake valves in Vortec heads hurt the flow.

Re: Vortec Intake Height

Really...
"Stock out-of-the-box Vortec heads have approx. 480HP potential naturally-aspirated. Fully race-ported flowing 275 cfm @ 28" water with 2.055/1.60 valves, potential is approx. 580 HP."
From here: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56505

I know this is like arguing on what's the best oil but, I'm still trying to find the height of the 472 Z28 intake.

That goes back to why not use AFRs or Darts.Unless your machinist is going to RACE Port them for free you will be spending as much or more money. As far as height pull your carb. put a straight edge on the carb. flange and measure to the gasket surface across the front.

Re: Vortec Intake Height

For all you Vortec haters (jk). I bought some anyway! $746 to my door with .600 lift roller springs from SDPC. You won't find ant AFR's for this much. These are NOT going on my camaro but in my daily driver truck that has to get good gas mileage and have low end tq for pulling my car.

Re: Vortec Intake Height

My machinist has some stock rebuilt 062s and 906s for 425.00/pair. Thinking about that but, haven't had a chance to find out how much more to install .202s, machine the spring seats and new springs yet. Might be more than aftermarkets.
BTW, I'm in the Dallas area and just found out my 010 4 bolt block I was counting on using was already bored .060. If anyone nearby has a good one or can use this one, let me know.

Re: Vortec Intake Height

Get the 062's not the 906's, you do not need 2.02 intakes. My machine shop is making 525hp on LIMITED circle track engines with these stock heads.

With stock springs? I've heard they were pretty weak at higher RPM...

When he said stock he meant unported. They have been converted to screw in studs and cut for different springs. And that 525hp is probably around 7500 rpms on a circle track motor. Not a street engine.
