quench/heat expansion...

Help me out... I'm trying to get as much compression out of a .040 327 with 58cc al heads, 4 valve relief stock type "eyebrows" as some call them i'm guessing their -7cc's??? Deck height measured at .014"-.015"

What is the smallest head gasket I can use with good quench and avoiding heat expansion to where my pistons wont hit the head??? I can get .013" gaskets.... Would those work or would I be making a costly mistake?

Thanks in Advance

The only Mustang I'd ever own is a Fender.

Re: quench/heat expansion...

I like to see about .035 -.040 quench, I think a GM .017 gasket would be the min. You are close on 7cc on those pistons, Maybe even 5 or 6 cc. Those 58cc chamber heads are gonna bump the compression up pretty high, about 10.5? Depending on your usage, I would lean towards the .028 gasket.

Re: quench/heat expansion...

Agree with Don here, .035-.040 with steel rods, need more with aluminum rods. Also need .080 intake valve to piston clearance, .100 exhaust valve to piston clearance as minimums. If you run a low perf engine you can run a little closer valve to piston clearance, but with w 327 you'll probably be winding it pretty high so I'd stick with the perf engine numbers above.
