1969 truck "O" rods shot peened and magged?

Hey guys. I've read on here before that "O" rods have pink paint to identify them as having been strength preped at the factory by shot peening and magnafluxing. Is it true that truck "O" rods were not? If that's the case can you tell the difference between the to by looking at them if the paint is gone? Thanks

Re: 1969 truck "O" rods shot peened and magged?

John, Factory Z28 Pink "O" Rods are very unique in that they have a very thin babbit on the small end, it appears dull, and there allways seems to be little pieces missing out of the plating. They also have no oiling holes from GM originaly. The caps are a different colour than the rod, it has something to do with the shotpeening, I was told they only shot peen the rod and not the caps? I have several sets and the caps are a noticeable different colour. Passenger car or Truck "O" rods are all the same colour, with press pin and no plating. If they have hone marks in the small end chances are they are not real Z Rods IMO.
Later version "pink" rods are press pin, in 70/71/ Z28 and Corvette LT1. The 1972 Z28,s all seem to have "B" rods.
Hope this Helps. Mike.
