327 to crate 350 damper

Hey guys, I think I've decided to go with a crate engine for my build. I'm going to make the crate engine look like the 327/275 L30 set up, and I've already got a bunch of the parts.

My concern is the vibration damper. I don't have one of them yet, so I'll need to get one. GM offers part #12551537 as a damper for their crate engine, and it's called a "clearance problem" damper. It is 6 3/4" diameter, 2 3/8" total "thickness" (snout and all) and the snout only is roughly 1 1/8" of it.

Does anyone have a confirmed original 327/275 damper they could look at and maybe measure, give me the part # on it, and possibly verify for me this GM damper will work as a replacement? Has anyone ever used one of these smaller GM dampers on a crate? Would I be better off trying to find an original 327/275 damper and use it?

I'm concerned about the new GM damper messing with my pulley alignment on everything else I've got for the build. Thanks in advance, Brian

Re: 327 to crate 350 damper

If you used an original 327 dampner it would most likely be for a short water-pump set up. I am not sure if they changed the thickness of them, when they went to the 8" balancer or not.
