my new engines first test run

Ok after setting the timing which is running happy at 38 degrees total and adjusting the 4 corner idle (highest vacum was 16")
and fixed the timing pointer scaping the balancer.
I took her for her first run
stabbed the pedal and spun the tires!
I also found out the tranny isnt going in to first gear?
did a longer run to check the kickdown and it needs adjustment.
once i took it back I noticed smoke (tranny oil)
I put in a chrome tranny dipstick (el cheapo spectre) and its pukin out all over the place where the dipstck tube enters the tranny.
any fixes for this or should i buy a lokar tranny dipstick?
guess I got a few wrinkles to iron out.
oh the seal on the distributor weeps a bit of oil too.

Re: my new engines first test run

i had the same problem with the spectre dipstick. i took the o-ring off and scuffed the polished metal so RTV would stick to it and rtv'd mine. haven't seen a drop out of mine in the 2 months since i did it.

Re: my new engines first test run

as far as your dipstick tube is concerned .. i have used a form of locktite (green i believe) that is used to hold bushings in place (we used it on real big earthmoving equipment) i bet if you scuffed up the chrome and used that stuff on the dipstick tube i bet that stuff would stop any leaking!

Re: my new engines first test run

ok dipstick tube leak fixed!
(sanded the chrome off the sealing surface)
no leaks and dry as a bone.
oil leak from fuel pump (changed pump to a holley )
edelbrock pumps suck!)
now to deal with the no first gear problem (shifter linkage TH350)
