Engine/Tranny Install Problem

Finally at the point to put the engine/tranny back in the car. As a precurser to my problem, took off the tranny from the engine to install a new flywheel. After that was done they were mated back together. I installed energy suspension motor and tranny mounts on the car. Other than the flywheel and mounts, it is the same engine/tranny that came out of the car.

I got the engine mounts to line up perfectly. But, the tranny mounts seem to be almost a half an inch off! If you look at the pictures, you can't see the tranny mount holes through the Xmember slots. The cross member frame mounts have 2 holes, not slotted, on each side.

How do i fix this? Has anyone come accross this before? It looks as though the Xmember needs to be moved further back on the frame or the engine moved forward, both of which would require a mount/frame alteration. But its the same engine/tranny/motor frame mounts/cross member so i'm really stumped!

Since i haven't really posted on my progress with this frame off-i thought i'd throw in a front view with the engine in.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Engine/Tranny Install Problem

I had same problem when i put energy suspension mounts in my car last week.
if you notice they are thicker than OEM mounts and will push the engine back a hair.
I have to re align the shifter linkage too (th350)
youll have to do as i did and modify the crossmember a bit.

The TH-400 crossmember you are using is for a big block. Big blocks are offset approximately 1". A TH-400 never came from the factory behind a small block. There is no available crossmember for this. To do it right the pad on the crossmember must be cut off and rewelded on center.
